Our Mission

CTC prides itself on its holistic approach to community development. Our initiatives focus on five specific needs: education, environment, economy, health and community. Each area directly impacts the community as a whole and each is interrelated to the success of one another. All CTC initiatives are managed by full-time local staff and community volunteers.

Why We Do What We Do...

Our Vision

CTC's logo is the handprint. The hand serves as a reminder that we are all human, all connected and all interdependent on one another. The hand also serves as the template for our 5 initiatives: education, environment, economy, health and community. Like the fingers on a hand, all 5 initiatives are interrelated, reminding us that what we do through one initiative directly impacts all other areas of the community. This is why CTC's approach to community development is holistic, recognizing that we cannot adequately address one area without addressing all areas equally.

In congruence with the hand and our holistic approach, CTC is implementing a new methodology to combat the cycle of poverty. The entry point of this new cycle begins with the fundamental element of hope. Restoration of hope in individual lives provides people with a sense of identity. This restores identity when channeled through communal efforts such as our economic, education, community, environment and health initiatives which brings empowerment and therefore transformation.

Our Story

In 2000, Zane Wilemon traveled to Kenya. He made a friend named Jeremiah Kuria, who brought him to his village called Maai Mahiu. While there, Zane experienced a level of poverty and desperation he had never known. He returned home to the U.S. broken and confused. Zane shared what he had seen. One year later he returned to Kenya with friends.

We built a school.
We listened to stories.
We built friendships.
We became Comfort the Children International.

Over the years, our friends told their friends who told their friends: doctors, seamstresses, grandmothers, financial planners, cheerleaders, priests, farmers, singers, psychologists, etc.

We are listening to the stories. We are addressing the problems. We are promoting fundamental human rights. We are creating sustainable change.
