Last week, students at Maai Mahiu Primary in the Rafiki Link club had a great time learning about computers and specifically the many uses of the internet.
As members of a club that connects global peers online, Rafiki Linkers need to have basic computer skills through which they can interact with other students around the world. This makes them better communicators and has the added benefit of increasing their knowledge about the outside world.
This week the students were reintroduced to blogging. Students post photos, videos and online and their global counterparts respond through comments and posts of their own!
They then practiced on using Google as a search tool and were shown just how easy it can be to look for information online.
One of the more difficult challenges that we are currently facing at Maai Mahiu Primary is that the school does not have an internet connection so students are only able to get connected during club times when Ruby Ruth and I bring modems along with us.
Rafiki Link students at Maai Mahiu Primary are also preparing for an upcoming annual Rafiki Day which will be held this weekend. This fun filled event brings all Rafiki Linkers in Maai-Mahiu together. That means students from Maai Mahiu Primary School, Maai Mahiu Boys School, Maai Mahiu Girls School, Ngeya Primary School and Longonot Secondary School will all get together, take part in leadership activities and make new friends.
