We were pleased to host the second annual International Ubuntu Day this past Saturday. We welcomed Connecting Voices of Inspiration (COVIT - from Kibera) to help with Ubuntu Day, where members of the community, young and old, came together to clean Maai-Mahiu. COVIT is an organization in Nairobi that empowers the youth in the area to become more aware of their involvement in the community. During their visit, COVIT had a chance to explore our programs and hold a small forum with some students.
Catching the Spirit, the organization we have linked up with in Canada was also doing an Ubuntu Day in their local area. People from across Kenya and the world participating in Ubuntu day illustrates our unity and shared ideology. We are changing the face of the community and it is fantastic. It was a day to remind us to take responsibility for environmental quality, which will lead us to a more sustainable future.
Saturday night we had a Skype video meeting with Catching the Spirit (Canada). The meeting with our family in Canada was inspirational! We learned a lot from each other. Our youth members joined in the meeting and had fun meeting new faces from a different race.
Thank you to COVIT, Catching the Spirit, and our beautiful community and family in Maai-Mahiu for making International Ubuntu Day a success.
Thank you,
Bernard Owino, Youth Coordinator
