Whole Planet Team Works and Plays

On Friday, the Whole Planet Team helped us break ground on our 11 acres of land, which will fuel one of our first income-generating projects. With the soccer team’s help, we built a chicken coop and a caretaker’s house so that the youth can watch over the chickens at night. After the Whole Planet Team finished working on the chicken coop, we visited students at Maai-Mahiu Secondary School. This was a wonderful time for both the team and the Rafiki Link Students.

The Rafiki Link students were eagerly waiting for the team to arrive. Upon their arrival, the group met with the head teacher. After the meeting, Rafiki Link student Samuel Njihia took the team on a tour of the school. When they returned from the tour there was entertainment set up by the students. The team was lucky enough to witness many different cultural dances, poems, and more. The poetry, Maasai songs, and other presentations focused on environmental conservation and how to avoid environmental degradation.

We have recently enhanced our efforts in Maai-Mahui to implement a sustainable policy to keep the forests alive. If we institute a rule that each person plants one tree a month, we will combat the deforestation and degradation, which is ailing our country.

After the entertainment finished, we listened to music and danced, which was the climax of the day. The Whole Planet Team and the students shared Maasai dancing, Kenyan styles such as Lingala, and American dances.

Thank you,
