Breaking Ground!

What a day it was for CTC, breaking ground on our first income-generating project on our new land.  We were honored to have Whole Foods’ Whole Planet Team with us for this wonderful and exciting moment.  We broke ground on our 11 acres of land where we envision a community center that will cater to Maai Mahiu and our surrounding neighbors.  Our first project was to build a poultry cage and a caretaker’s house.  The youth are responsible for managing and caring for the poultry.  A lot of hard work from the youth and the team went in to complete the caretaker’s room before the end of the day.  Thanks for your tireless efforts.

We are starting small with a poultry income-generating project for the youth who have been so vibrant in supporting the efforts of CTC in Maai Mahiu.  This project will not only provide financial support for the youth program but it will also create opportunities for the youth who would have otherwise stayed idle for lack of opportunities.  We currently have two hundred fifty (250) youth who will directly benefit from this project and many others who will be impacted by these efforts.

The goal is to start with 200 chickens but the housing can hold up to 400 at one time.  We will buy the grown chickens from the Ministry of Agriculture and hope to start harvesting the eggs after a month.  All our youth are very excited and we are glad CTC could start a program that is self sustaining for the youth.  Thanks to Whole Foods for helping us start this project, and to all our supporters for your continued faithfulness to keep the good work going on.

Thank you,

Jeremiah Kuria, Kenyan Director
