Meredith Rogers, Community & Faith Team

My name is Meredith Rogers, and I am extremely blessed that I have been selected to be on the Community & Faith Team traveling to Kenya in December!

I have always been passionate about helping people wherever I can with whatever I have. I was led to CTC International through the new job that I began at the end of August, I am the Program Coordinator at the Episcopal Student Center in Austin. My job is to work with college students, help organize programs, do some office work and make sure we get them some home cooked meals to help them through their weeks! I have been on a few short term missions before, three to Mexico while I was in High School and two to the Dominican Republic during college.

I look forward to being completely overwhelmed by the love and care that I see all over the world, especially through all of the CTC initiatives I have been learning about. I hope to learn and experience all that Kenya and Maai Mahiu have to offer. My team and I will have the opportunity to work alongside grandmothers in the gardens, children in the classrooms, and community health workers in refugee camps to begin to understand how transformation has happened in their communities. Each night we will spend time intentionally reflecting on this process through the lens of our faith. We will be challenged to imagine how similar transformations might take place in our own communities. Ubuntu is a traditional African phrase meaning, "I am because we are." In all that we do, we will seek to live into this way of life, strengthening the ties that bind us together.
