In the summer of 2010 a group of CTC supporters got together to travel to
Kenya and experience first hand the work of Comfort the Children International in
Maai Maihu, Kenya. We all came from faith communities and decided to pay special
attention to the intersection of our faith and what we experienced in Kenya.
This winter, a new faith team will travel to Maai Mahiu for the purpose of
building relationships – with one another and the people of Kenya. It is our hope to
gather an ecumenical and interfaith group from across the country for this
experience. With specific attention to how our faith shapes us, the faith team will
seek to build relationships for the purpose of life changing transformations.
We will work alongside grandmothers in the gardens, children in the
classrooms, and community health workers in refugee camps to begin to
understand how transformation has happened in their communities. Each night
we will spend time intentionally reflecting on this process through the lens of our
faith. We will be challenged to imagine how similar transformations might take
place in our own communities. Ubuntu is a traditional African phrase meaning, “I
am because we are.” In all that we do, we will seek to live into this way of life,
strengthening the ties that bind us together.
In addition to work in the town of Maai Mahiu, we will go on Safari and
explore the beauty of the lower Rift Valley. This unique cultural exchange will
provide opportunities to create life long relationships and be catalysts of
transformation.
Comfort the Children International offers a unique model of communal
holistic change. Through education and empowerment, the CTC teams work to give
the people of Maai Mahiu the tools they need to make sustainable change. Initiatives
focus on Education, Economy, Community, Health, and Environment.
