About the bags

L.I.F.E. in Every Stitch

When you purchase an eco-friendly L.I.F.E. Bag, you not only invest in the environment, but also the care and wellbeing of special needs Kenyan children.

Unlike a handout, L.I.F.E. bags are a sustainable hand up. L.I.F.E. bags are produced by Malaika Mums, a non-profit business run by and solely benefitting a community of Kenyan women whose children have special needs. The women, who are their families primary wage earners, are trained to produce the L.I.F.E. bags, providing them a salary to provide for their families. To be disabled either mentally or physically in Kenya typically means facing a life of exclusion or shame. Many in the Kenyan culture believe it's a curse to be disabled. To combat this societal-wide rejection, Comfort the Children (CTC) began Malakai Kids to offer programs to help the children of these mothers learn how to walk, how to write or simply live in a positive, healthy environment with other children.

The purchase of your bag brings all this to L.I.F.E.

L.I.F.E. bags are made of local Kenyan cotton canvas and are individually hand-sewn by our Malaika mothers. The art is designed by The Veritas Project and the HOPE Campaign, both organizations created to support humanitarian efforts across the globe, and the images are silk-screened locally in Kenya. The L.I.F.E. bag is global outreach in the most literal sense--from her hand to yours.

Currently, we have 10 Kenyan mothers in our program. Every L.I.F.E. bag sold is a chance to introduce another child in need of care toward societal acceptance. Carry a L.I.F.E. bag and you carry a family to a place they never thought possible.
