CTC Garden Projects

What:  2-acre garden on the CTC land that will produce fresh, organic vegetables to use in recipes for Café Ubuntu

CTC is working on alleviating poverty in the Maai Mahiu community through a grassroots approach with primary school children in our Environmental Club. The yield harvested in the garden will also supplement school lunches, providing 1,450 students with healthy vegetables.

How:  Now that we have successfully connected to a sustainable water source on the CTC land, we are growing a large-scale demonstration garden to promote environmental awareness.

  • Hosting trainings for community members on technologies such as composting and drip irrigation.
  • The garden consists of a variety of vegetables including Kale, Spinach, Onions, and Tomatoes.
  • The CTC Environmental Club is working in collaboration with Mama Hope and Yes to Carrots and expanding training gardens to Maai Mahiu and Namuncha Primary Schools.

Backyard Sack Gardening:

CTC and the schools’ administration joined together to focus on one agenda, aiming to alleviate poverty in the community through a grassroots approach with primary school children.

We started this backyard project with an introduction to “Sack Gardening” at the students’ homes, which are now thriving and being assessed. This process was established in the homes of 17 students, 13 from Maai Mahiu and 4 from Namuncha Primary.
