Malaika Kids teachers: Stronger than you think

This year we decided to make National Teacher Appreciation Day an international affair and celebrate the four incredible woman who give of their hearts, energy, and love to our Malaika Kids program.

The ladies were treated to a meal at Cafe UBUNTU, and then spent the afternoon in the prayer garden, reminiscing with Stephen and George, two extraoridnary former Malaika Kids who have now graduated to work in the garden.

Martin, Malaika Kids Occupational Therapist, and Jeremiah, our Kenyan Director, expressed thankfulness on behalf of our entire organization and presented the ladies with gifts of appreciation.

Martin noted, “We have all trained our kids something in one way or the other from washing clothes, eating habits to everything. So, I would like to thank all of you for great team work. No one who achieves success does so without acknowledging the help of others.”

Ruth Gichinga, an Early Childhood Development teacher later joined the team, in the beginning of 2014 helping to identify the kids’ education capability.

Since the program started, Grace, Margaret and Miriam have dedicated their time and energy to take good care of our kids transitioning them from being volunteers to employees.

After the women recieved their gifts, they surprised us all by deciding to join in the afternoon's boot camp session!

Easing into it at first, Ruth, Grace, Margaret, and Miriam, soon gave the other participants a reason to pick up the pace!

And we dare anyone to match the perfect form of Grace's side plank...you go girl.

Our greatest gratitude to Martin, Ruth, Grace, Miriam, and Margaret for their hard work and compassionate hearts. Here's to the team that's creating the change in the lives of some incredible children in Maai Mahiu!
