Coming Of Age

- STORIES FROM MAAI MAHIU, KENYA -

The story of CTC & Maai Mahiu sounds like a folk tale of a meandering stream that began its course from the middle of nowhere in the little known  forest to finally getting  to share course with the mighty oceans  of the land.

That was the story in late November when the county governor of Rift valley capital Nakuru, took time off his busy schedule to learn, interact and even dine with the celebrated CTC staff into late hours of the night as his entourage and armed body guards watched in awe.

It was very captivating to watch the governor and his county staff visit all of our programs, showing keen interest as Jeremiah wowed him with CTC’s story of transforming lives. The obviously humbled governor could not hide his amazement at not only how well CTC’s director knew and understood the plight of Maai Mahiu residents  but how deeply he was able to elaborate on viable proposals to alleviate their suffering!

A pat on the back was quite in place as the CTC staff got the recognition of the whole county by being paraded before the mammoth crowd and glaring media cameras! Talk about attracting the attention!

Obviously smitten by CTC efforts, the governor pledged overwhelming support for CTC to ensure the programs are kept alive. Of keen interest to him was the waste management initiative single-handedly implemented by CTC.  After making several pledges and showering the CTC director leading a formidable team of enthusiasts, the governor finally left…but only after sampling Café Ubuntu’s “Special of the Day,” Cappuccino.  Finally the small stream is finding its course into the ocean………Talk of ending the year on a high!
