CTC HIV/AIDS Program had an exciting week as it undertook its different program activities. Most significant was the school based health program in one of its target school, Maai Mahiu Girls Secondary school. The program aims at exploring young peoples’ health needs and providing accurate information about their mental, social, physical and psychological aspects of life. Myths and beliefs are explored bringing about informed young minds at primary and secondary level.
Maai Mahiu Girls Secondary school had a change of program from the usual health education talks to an interactive health education movie. 68 girls were present during the session and joy was significant in their faces. The movie, TOUGH CHOICES, focuses on developing life skills and most specifically developing resilience to cope with everyday life challenges among the youth. It shows the situations that require tough choices to be made to avoid lifelong regrets.
The session assisted the girls in realizing their priorities in life as this forms the basis of each decision they make. Self awareness, self esteem, interpersonal relationship, effective communication, critical thinking and rational judgment were some of the issues that were explored in the 52 minute movie.
