Friends & Family, I am extremely fortunate to be traveling to Maai Mahiu, a small town in Kenya, on a trip led by my fabulous cousin, Beth Magill. Many of you know that I have made several trips to southern Africa, but I have never been to Kenya and am especially excited to interact with people in the community and learn about the challenges of daily life in rural Kenya. CTC is a fabulous organization that has made great strides in improving the quality of life for residents in Maai Mahiu. On this trip I will have an opportunity to see and be involved in all of their initiatives working alongside grandmothers in the gardens, children in the classroom, and community health workers in refugee camps. CTC has truly made a great impact on the Maai Mahiu community. Some examples of this include running the first school for special needs kids in the region, building gardens yielding fresh produce, and the first bakery in the region among other things. CTC has also provided employment for more than 600 Kenyans. I cannot express my excitement for this trip! I expect that I will be transformed in ways I can't even imagine yet.
