Goal
In the summer of 2010 I traveled with the first Community & Faith team to Maai Mahiu. Two years later, I am preparing to return to a town much changed due to the successful sustainable development initiatives. CTC has taught the residents how to maintain a waste management system. With newly acquired land for an expanded headquarters, they have built the first bakery in the region. They have exceeded their goal for the number of gardens yielding fresh produce as a means of income and healthy diet. The infection rate of HIV/AIDS has been dramatically reduced. There is a long waiting list for their school for children with special needs – the only one of it’s kind in the region. Their staff now includes over 600 Kenyans, expanding to Masai grandmothers in the valley who are a part of their GAPA (Grandmothers Against Poverty & AIDS) program. The people of this town half a world away have remained in my heart and prayers. I cannot wait to see all that has transpired with my own two eyes. Mostly, I cannot wait to hug my friends. I miss them! I have been inspired by all they have accomplished and have been transformed in my faith in ways I could never have imagined. I have been talking about these people and telling stories from my time in Kenya for the last two years. Finally, the students have an opportunity to experience it for themselves! This January I will lead a team of students from the Episcopal Student Center at the University of Texas. The work of transformation will continue as we expand the ranks of the CTC family. Your financial support will make this trip possible. With incredibly high airfare costs, twelve days on the ground costs $4,000. Trust me when I say the “cost” of this trip cannot be measured in dollars, as the impact will reach far beyond our time in Kenya. Anything from $5 to $500 would be a tremendous help in reaching my goal to make the trip a reality. Giving is incredibly easy through the personal donation page - simply click on the link below. The entire CTC family thanks you for your generosity! Asante Sana, Beth
